Germany's 7-1 demolition of Curaçao in Houston was the biggest margin of victory in the tournament so far, and arguably the biggest scoresheet of the entire group stage. Côte d'Ivoire beat Ecuador 1-0 late in Philadelphia, courtesy of a Diallo finish in the dying minutes.2

Egypt1010111
Iran1010111
New Zealand1010111

Group HPlayedWDLGFGAPts
Saudi Arabia1010111
Uruguay1010111
Cabo Verde1010001
Spain1010001
The shock of matchday 1: Spain drew 0-0 with Cabo Verde in Atlanta, with goalkeeper Vozinha making a string of saves to deny the pre-tournament favourites — a result that sent him to two million Instagram followers overnight, and pushed France alone to the top of the betting boards.1 Saudi Arabia and Uruguay drew 1-1 in Miami, with Uruguay finally breaking through in the 80th minute via Maxi Araujo.

Groups I, J, K & L (yet to kick off)

Groups I, J, K, and L begin on June 16–17. France vs. Senegal (Group I) headlines the day, followed by Argentina's opener against Algeria (Group J), Portugal vs. DR Congo (Group K), and England vs. Croatia (Group L). Their standings will populate the next edition of this table.

Balogun scored twice in the USA's 4-1 win over Paraguay — a penalty-spot finish and a composed top-corner effort on his weaker foot — to announce himself as one of the faces of the host nation's campaign. Yasin Ayari matched that tally in a single afternoon for Sweden against Tunisia, netting two long-range strikes that left Brighton teammates watching in Stockholm.

Goalkeeping spotlight

The first five days produced several headline-making performances between the posts:
  • Vozinha (Cabo Verde) — Held Spain to a 0-0 draw in Atlanta, making multiple saves against Yamal and company. Gained two million social media followers within 24 hours.1
  • Matt Freese (USA) — Conceded once from 12 Paraguay shots in the 4-1 win, helped maintain a clean sheet for the majority of a high-intensity match.
  • Bart Verbruggen (Netherlands) — Conceded twice in a dramatic 2-2 draw with Japan. His opposite number Zion Suzuki also conceded twice — neither side could hold a lead.
  • Uğurcan Çakır (Türkiye) — Two goals conceded in a 0-2 loss to Australia, neither unguardable, as Türkiye's attacking end offered very little support.
The Golden Glove race is far too early to call, but Vozinha has the tournament's biggest underdog moment so far.
